HYDRATED LIME PLANT
IN LAS CALERAS,
DPTO DE CALAMUCHITA CORDOBA PROVINCE
The zone studied is located in Calamuchita Department , Pedañia Cañada de Alvarez, in Las Caleras de Calamuchita Locality.
To access the zone it is necessary to take National Route N°36 up to Berrotaran Locality, where it is necessary to take W for the Route E68 up to reach Las Caleras Village. There is a detour towards S, for a country road with gravel and there are approximately 300 meters, to ride to arrive to the mining establishment.
It is at 18 Km. From La Cruz Locality and 17 Km. From Berrotaran City, and both are joined by Provincial Routes E-61 and E-68 respectively.
The coordinates to access the establishment are:
S 32° 23’ 36.65’’ W 64° 31’ 10.08’’
The property, which access is located at 300 m of the Route counts with electricity, water and Internet Service, it is a field of 21 Has 6874 m2.
The Carbonates Deposit, where the open quarries are located, with its mineral reserve untouched, covers a surface of approximately 18 has.; in the rest of the zone, the productive plant is located and there are also a place for the deposit of material.
Those deposits and quarries of double Carbonate of Calcium and Magnesium have been opened 35 years ago, with a transversal cut , (East – West ) of 06 m wide, 100 m long and 21 m deep. There is where the real value of this mineral reserve, estimated according to studies and geological essays, at a deep of 40 m, in around 5.500.000 Tn. of Magnesium Quarries of several types. It is important to mention that this is a real calculation, but the information of the drilling performed up to 75 m is not minor. The mineral surged in the same quality, which indicates that the Reserve may have a great value.
The establishment counts with 40 queries, 10 of them are open and 30 remain virgin.
The actual installed capacity is 3.000 Tn /month for Production. Only a 50 % is being used.

The sheds for the Hydration Plant, Hydrated Lime Grinning and Hydrated Lime Expedition have a surface of 300 m2 , and 8 m height.
A closed shed as a workshop and warehouse for spare parts and mounting , with 5,5 m height x 150 m2 surface.
Warehouse for Big-Bags , ready to be delivered, 7 m height x 100 m2 surface.
Warehouse for containers and tires, 120 m2
Warehouse for spare parts and tools, 90 m2

CALCULATION FOR RESERVES
In order to calculate reserves it was employed the method of medium areas between profiles; it means to draw profiles which are equidistant and perpendicular to the longest elongation of the object. There are drawn vertical geological lines where at regular intervals the shape of the deposit and the area of each section are represented.
Medium areas are calculated between the profiles and are multiplied for the distance established between the profiles. Following there is the sum of the volumes partially obtained, arriving to the total tonnage of the existing reserves in the deposit. The specific weight of the actual material should be considered.
From calculations made in the sector studied the following results were obtained:
Probable reserves: For its callibration it was considered the outcropping area and as a quantification inferior level (NIC, for its acronym in Spanish) The level of 700 meters was taken. It correspond to the level in depth where the presence of suitable material was verified and the possibility of remediation for the intervened area was considered.
The quantification of the exploitable reserves was carried out, excluding in this reserves the opening of the deposit which presents a potency considered in 1.00 meter.
According to current laws the mentioned level that would allow the reacconditioning of the sector with the execution of exploitation final slopes with slopes that guarantee the stability of them accoding to environmental norms that regulates the extractive activity. For this reason this NIC was taken at that deep and the projection of an horizontal plane to that level in the entire deposit.
The reserves constitute the basic geological data for the construction of an exploitation project in its three aspects: technical, economical and financial feasibility.
According to the quantification performed in the calculation of recoverable reserves existing in the deposit told is 3.791.130 tons.
In order to carry out the reserve calculation for the deposit, it was determined the location and level of points inside the property. Four longitudinal profiles were made . Their dimensions vary between 445 and 570 meters, detached by an average distance of 50 meters. The profiles allowed to determine the rock volumes for the sectors considered. If they are considered by its specific weight (2,8 g/cm3), they will give a weight expressed in tons.
On gross tonnage, a useful recoverable was considered in a 70%, due to the big quantity of sterile and disposable material (belts of amphibolitics schists, superficial cover, zones excessively diacid, etc).
Possible reserves were determined. They were calculated taking as a comparison in quantification profiles with a level at 700 a.s.l., that matchs the floor where quality, thickness and extension of the carbonate banks in near labor areas.
From calculations made in the sectors with possibilities for a quick reactivation, the following results were obtained:
